    ‘Turning wall paper into value adding business systems’.

    Presentation Synopsis:

    ‘As companies apply lean thinking to their businesses there is a tendency to focus on the ‘artefacts of Lean’.  These can take the form of slogans on the walls, lines on the floor, performance boards in office areas and production lines, and the dreaded culture survey!!!  The so called balanced score cards are often unbalanced and some cases require major psychological intervention.   The subliminal learning form people working with these ‘hollow tools’ is highly destructive.  Tools that are put in place to enable a ‘culture of continuous improvement’ end up creating a disabling culture where problems aren’t solved, vagueness is omnipotent, and fear reigns!  Individually these tools and artefacts are of no long-term value to the business unless they are seen as forming part of a critical business system, and are designed and continually reviewed for their fitness for purpose.  In these few minutes we’ll look at one of these tools and what it should and should not be doing for us.’

    Speaker Bio:

    John joined S A Partners in December 2009 and has worked with a number of blue chip multinational corporations with responsibility for Lean Six Sigma implementation across multiple sites within mainland Europe and UK. Before joining S A Partners John was Director of Operational Excellence at Johnson and Johnson. He has experience in electronics, medical devices, pharmaceutical, food industries and service sector. John has implemented changed programmes within highly Unionised and regulated environments. John’s specialist areas include process design for Lean, process performance management, work design and strategy deployment KPI development, performance dashboards and problem solving. John is a recognised expert in the application of Lean thinking and has recently supported NSAI and Enterprise Ireland in the development of standard Lean implementation guidance document for Ireland.
