    Dr Phil Hemmingway is a Programme Manager at Science Foundation Ireland, Ireland’s national science and engineering funding agency. Phil works on SFI’s pre-award team, which is responsible for the development and delivery of SFI’s suite of funding programmes, and for managing the processes associated with investing SFI’s €160M annual budget. In addition to managing a number of SFI’s funding Programmes, he is also largely responsible for the management of activities relating to the energy, engineering and environment sectors within SFI. He represents SFI on two of Ireland’s twelve National Research Prioritisation Action Groups (Marine Renewable Energy and Smart Grids & Smart Cities); DCENR’s Energy Research Strategy Group; and on the Smart Grid Implementation Advisory Group (convened by SEAI).

    He is a Chartered Engineer and has gained significant industry experience working in the energy & environment section of one of Ireland’s leading engineering companies in the areas of major energy infrastructure development, renewable energy technologies, policy development, project management and risk analysis. He is also a former member of academic staff at University College Dublin, a Guest Lecturer at Cork Institute of Technology and has acted as an expert reviewer for various European Commission Funding Programmes.
